Renaissance Festival at Vendée
Fête de la Renaissance en Vendée
02,03.09.2017 (biennial event, next edition in 2019)
L'Herbergement, Vendee (Pays de la Loire region)
Every two years on the first Sunday of September the town of Herbergement, in the Vendée department, about 42 km from Nantes, celebrates the Renaissance Festival that recalls a tradition dating back to 1569.
Once passing through the gates into a reconstructed Renaissance town with the castle and market street, the visitors let themselves be carried away by the atmosphere of the fairs of the past. The festivities are open by a colorful parade with peasants, guards, common citizens, artists and nobles. Jugglers, acrobats, swordsmen and horsemen, musicians and dancers hold performances and displays on the stage and in the streets. The Blacksmith, the weaver and other craftsmen share their experience and teach their techniques through interactive workshops. Children and adults can also try archery and ancient games, watch falconry and wolves show, experience the Renaissance garden or the special "machinery" of the famous Italian humanist and polymath Leonardo da Vinci.
