Medieval Days in Tyresö
Tyresö (Stockholm county)
Tyresö, a municipality in Stockholm County in east central Sweden, situated on the coast of the Baltic Sea, invites the visitors of all ages to step into the past and experience the medieval history of the city. The Tyresö estate has its origins in the 14th century. During the 17th century the estate was at its largest, covering nearly the entire current area of the municipality. Tyresö Castle and Tyresö Church were built at the initiative of the Lord High Chancellor, Gabriel Oxenstierna. Tyresö’s beautiful scenery has been a source of inspiration for famous artists and writers. One of them was Prince Eugene, who spent 18 summers there.
During the annual Medieval Days in Tyresö the visitors find themselves in a unique atmosphere of the past, among knights, artisans, jugglers and street artists. The brave knights fight on their snorting horses in an exciting tournament, while the medieval market offers all sorts of goods and various crafts' demonstrations. The theatrical performances and medieval music fill the place with a special spirit, enhanced by the ancient smells and tastes. The public is invited to participate in exciting activities, like games, horse riding and archery, and special programmes are offered for children.
