Medieval Festival of Ternand
Les Médiévales de Ternand
Ternand (Rhône-Alpes region)
At the heart of the picturesque valley of the river Azergues, in the Rhône department, 31 km from Lyon, the department capital, stands the ancient village of Ternand. The place was given its name by the Celts, from "ter" meaning “three” and "nan" meaning “brook”.
At this very wonderful location the Medieval Festival takes place, inviting the public to get immersed into the medieval atmosphere of the 12th century. The visitor wanders along the paved streets crowded with artisans offering their goods, troubadours and street artists enchanting with their performances, common citizens visiting the market and enjoying the festive atmosphere. There are also various demonstrations, such as sword fighting, archery, chivalry and birds of prey, and adults and children get involved into medieval games, workshop and many other activities.
