Bosworth Medieval Festival - Battle of Bosworth, AD 1485
Sutton Cheney village (Leicestershire county)
Bosworth is a site of national historic significance, being the location of one of the three most important battles fought on British land - the Battle of Bosworth, the penultimate battle of the Wars of the Roses, the civil war between the House of Lancaster and the House of York that raged across England in the latter half of the 15th century. Fought on 22 August 1485, the Battle of Bosworth was won by the Lancastrians.
The Bosworth Battlefield is located on Ambion Hill, near the village of Sutton Cheney and the town of Market Bosworth in Leicestershire. The Country Park was developed on the site in the early 1970’s to provide an environment for interpreting the famous Battle. Today, the place offers guided tours, living history displays, re-enactment of daily life and battles of the medieval period, lectures on historical and archaeological themes and programs for children and schools.
The Battle of Bosworth is celebrated every year on its historical site with a spectacular reenactment event. Hundreds of medieval reenactors bring history to life as Kings, knights, archers and soldiers come face to face to recreate this decisive and bloody battle that saw the death of King Richard III and the birth of the powerful Tudor Dynasty.
The spectacular event includes a thrilling jousting tournament and a mounted skill-at-arms display. The visitors can step back in time and soak up the sights, sounds and smells of medieval life in the atmospheric living history camp and at the medieval market. The majestic falconry displays and all kinds of medieval entertainment are provided as well.
