Medieval Festival at Pomposa Abbey, AD 1000
Pomposia Imperialis Abbatia
Codigoro, Ferrara (Emilia-Romagna region)
Pomposa Abbey is a Benedictine monastery in the comune of Codigoro near Ferrara, Italy. It was one of the most important abbeys in northern Italy, famous for the Carolingian manuscripts preserved in its rich library, and for the Romanesque buildings. Each year the Abbey of Pomposa relives the historical event that made the monastery famous, when Emperor Otto III granted it total autonomy from any political and religious center around.
The historical reenactment is aimed to relive actually the year 1000, which was for Pomposa the period of the spiritual, religious and cultural heyday. In this abbey Guido d'Arezzo, the pomposian monk, invented the modern musical notation in the early 11th century.

Ancient crafts demonstrations, local products stands, medieval markets and musical performances will accompany visitors and tourists in the exciting journey into world of the past.
