2018 dates to be announced (last edition in June 2016)
Parco Archeologico di Saturo, Leporano, Taranto (Apulia region)
“La battaglia dell’XI secolo” (The 11th century Battle) yearly gathers both Italian and foreign reenactors who animate a big encampment full of artisans and various activities for visitors and fight a battle on both days. During the clash both Byzantine and Norman lines follow specific orders and arrays previously studied on historical sources.
The event will take place at the wonderful archeological site Saturo in Leporano, city of Taranto, Apulia, southern Italy. "Taranto was taken in 1060 by the commander Roberto, then he conquered Brindisi. Count Magerio banished the Greeks from Oria. In october Mariarcha came with an Imperial army and fought a big battle against Roberto and Malgerio and, by doing so, expelling the Normans. So, he took again those lands including Otranto." - from Breve Chronicon Northmannicum.
