Medieval Festival at Bonaguil Castle
Médiévales des châteaux de Bonaguil-Fumel
Fumel (Aquitaine region)
Château de Bonaguil is a castle in the French commune of Saint-Front-sur-Lémance, but is actually owned by the neighbouring commune of Fumel, in the Lot-et-Garonne département. Château de Bonaguil was the last of the fortified castles, built in the 13th century and almost entirely restructured in the 15-16th centuries by Bérenger de Roquefeuil, who added all of the defensive improvements of the end of the Middle Ages.
Medieval history comes alive around the Bonaguil castle during the annual festival “Médiévales”, with noble lords and ladies, squires and damsels, artisans and common citizens. This wonderful spectacle of the life in the Middle Ages invites the visitors to experience history and become its part through displays of tournaments between the knights, amusing street performances and ancient crafts’ demonstrations in the authentic surrounding, representing the well-preserved historical heritage.
