Medieval Festival at Colmars-les-Alpes
Fête médiévale de Colmars-les-Alpes
Colmars-les-Alpes (Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region)
Colmars (or Colmars-les-Alpes) is a commune in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence department in southeastern France, situated at the confluence of the Verdon and Lance rivers.
The town relives its medieval past during the annual celebration of the time of lords and ladies – the Medieval Festival. The streets are crowded, and the visitors meet lords and peasants, ruffians and whores. Colmars lives two days of the rhythm of tambourines, flutes and bagpipes. Jugglers, stilt walkers, knights, acrobats and other performers are involved in the spectacular shows. The visitors join medieval dances and play old games. At the medieval market, the artisans explain their work and offer crafts workshops, while the warriors at the military camps demonstrate their weapons.
