Festival of the Chimay Principality
Fête de la Principauté de Chimay
Next edition dates to be announced (the event was last held in 2012)
Chimay (region of Wallonia)
Chimay is a municipality located in the Belgian province of Hainaut, at the source of the Oise River. In its actual shape, Chimay represents nearly the old "ground of Chimay", first a simple lordship, then an earldom and finally a principality founded by Maximilien d'Autriche in 1486.
Every year Chimay invites the visitors to discover and share its rich historical heritage, recreating the Renaissance period in the princely city through numerous performances and displays, in the well preserved surrounding. The entire historic heart of Chimay comes alive with the sound of music and renaissance dances. The visitors are able to see the reconstructions of scenes from daily life, horses shows, to meet storytellers, acrobats, falconers, to visit market stalls of artisans and exciting evening shows with music and fire.
