Roman Days in Autun
Journées Romaines d'Autun
Autun (Burgundy region)
The rich heritage of the city of Autun, located in Burgundy in eastern France, is a source for continuous discovery of history and traditions of thousands years ago. The early settlement was founded there during the reign of the first Roman emperor, Augustus, and originally was bearing his name: Augustodunum. There are still the remains of the buildings of the Gallo-Roman period on the territory of Autun.
The Roman Days bring history to life in Autun, through reenactment displays and authentic recreation of life and battles of the Gallo-Roman period. The event invites to visit a Roman market, take part in various living history and archaeological workshops, learn about the military life, equipment and maneuvers in spectacular demonstrations and parades, experience gladiator fights, antique sports and Roman theatre.
